A while back Microsoft had a special deal (www.ItsNotCheating.com.au) for Aussie Uni students. They could buy Office 2007 Ultimate for only $75 (normally costs over $1000!).

Well - they ran a competition to help advertise the deal. You could enter blog posts - and the most original one would win a Vespa Scooter!

Somehow, my silly little blog story about King William Gates and his plan to defeat the evil Lord Macintosh won first prize!

Well - turns out that Microsoft are doing the deal again - and they rang me up and asked if I could turn my blog into a movie to help advertise it this time around as well.

They agreed to give me an Xbox 360 for my troubles - which was enough to make me agree to the challenge. And it was a challenge.

• I had a week and a half
• I had never done stop motion before
• I had to rebuild my lego sets
• I had to borrow my friends soldiers
• I had to buy some skeletons and express post them ($60)
• I had to find a program to edit the movie
• I had to shorten the script
• I had to find a voice for the voice-over (Thanks Dad).
• And I had to shoot 1183 individual frames (just counted).
• And I had to fit it all around a full time job including a work trip to Melbourne.

When I showed it to Microsoft - they were very impressed - but thought it was too long, and asked me to edit it down a lot. I didnt really want to do that - cause it'd cut a lot of important stuff out of the story - so instead I offered to make them a shorter version (almost a trailer) and they accepted.

The trailer reused some shots from the real version - but other shots were done specifically. One even made it back into the final version of the full movie.
